Picture your wedding day... You've made everyone cry during your vows, laugh during your speeches and you are officially newlyweds, but there's one final hurdle to get over, and it's the one you think your guests are not going to let you get away with skipping. The first dance.
When I have had enough frozen margaritas to find my confidence I'm usually ready to channel my inner Saturday Night Fever vibes on a dance floor but the thought of having to dance in time with someone else, in heels and a huge dress in front of all my friends and family fills me with anxiety. Some couples welcome this opportunity to showcase just how in harmony they are, as they move majestically in sync to their song. I won't be one of those couples. If you are losing sleep worrying your school prom shuffle won't cut it centre stage at your wedding, then take a deep breath, help is at hand.
Book some lessons. Plenty of couples take private dance classes to prepare for the big day and it's a fun thing to do with your partner in the lead up to your wedding. There are dance styles and levels of difficulty to suit everyone. The hardest thing is picking your song.
If you're not one to shy away from attention why not own that first dance by taking it to the next level and becoming a youtube sensation in the process. A cleverly choreographed routine will ensure your first dance is the one everyone is talking about for years to come.
Your bridesmaids and groomsmen are there to make your marriage go smoothly and they're not going to mind one more request. Position them strategically around the dancefloor, give them a cue and minimize your solo couple moment by getting them to join you after the first chorus.
Pick a song you like to dance to. The more you love dancing to a song, the more you'll relax and enjoy yourself.
Go your own way. You are legally married with or without the first dance so if you don't want one, you really don't have to have one. Your guests will remember what happened at your wedding not what didn't. It's your day after all.
